How to Turn a “Ruff” Relocation into a “Purrfect” Pilgrimage

Animals have a very keen sense of their surroundings and they notice when routines change. Specifically, relocation can be very unsettling for pets. But by hiring a pet relocation service, a huge burden is lifted. And, in turn, both your and your pet’s fears can be eased.

Bridget Monrad, President of Happy Tails Travel, Inc., has been relocating people’s pets for over 12 years. “Emotions run high when it comes to these special family members,” she explains. “A lot of trust is placed in the hands of pet movers. Part of that trust involves knowing what it takes to get a pet from point A to point B without incident.”

For instance, sedating a pet before putting it on an airplane can be dangerous, if not deadly. “If an animal has been sedated or even acts as though it has been sedated, the airline will refuse to let the animal on board,” Monrad adds.

Trustworthiness is recognizable when a pet owner knows what to look for. Anthony Deniker, President of AnimalsAway.com recommends not hiring anyone that isn’t a member of the Independent Pet & Animal Transport Assoc. (IPATA).

“There’s a lot more involved than just dropping an animal off at the airport,” said Deniker. “A pet may need a proper kennel, a grooming, or even a vet check.”
